Annie

Annie
October 2009

Painting Size: 53cm x 82cm

Using the theme indulgence, I wanted the girls face to have an expression showing her love for the coat she is wearing. I used acrylic paints on card to complete this first hand study. I began by painting the base coats of the face, getting the different shades and tones. Then I went over the face with chalk pencils to help me go even more into depth. I blended the chalk out to make the face look smooth and skin like. I decided to research artists who focused on people and their faces. I found one called Miseon Lee that is like this piece in many ways. I looked at how the artist captured the girl’s freckles and I used this to help me capture the freckles on Annie’s face. I used Acrylic to paint the coat and then worked into it in detail using my chalk pencils, capturing the small strokes of hair and the glossy shine of the coat.
